Pulley Rig
This rig comes into its own when fished over extremely rough ground. These areas serve as “tackle grave-yards” but on many occasions, that’s where the big fish in-habit. Under normal circumstances, a fast retrieve will help bring the end tackle back avoiding “snags”, and a lead-lift attached will also help to some extent. However, if you hook into a decent fish, it will do its damndest to drag the trailing lead-weight through every obstacle it may find.
With a Pulley Rig, the battle and consequent drag of the fish will pull the lead-weight up to the swivel and out of harm’s way, leaving a straight line between rod tip and fish. This will give the angler a fighting chance to land that fish of a life-time over boulder or kelp-ridden habitat.
