Penn Mag2 Series
Penn Mag2 Series 515, 525 and 535
A series of three high-performance reels designed for long-range casting on both UK and European shores.
What the wholesaler says;
The 515 mag2 is perfect for targeting rough-ground Bass as well as general beach work, but with its greater line capacity the larger 525 MAG2 is the reel to choose for long range beach and mixed rough ground fishing.
The newly introduced 525 MAG2 with its fast 6:1 gear ratio is a powerhouse reel designed to fish at long range into deep water for big fish amongst rough ground and kelp weed.

Also featured are shielded stainless steel ball-bearings, a forged aluminium spool, and a tough HT-100 drag system that can really lock down on big fish such as Conger and fast-running Tope. These reels enjoy a cult following and are a top seller for all beach and rock-fishing situations.
My turn;
I tried the 525 model (line capacity-240 yards of 18lb, 6:1 ratio) which looks extremely sexy in black with gold trimmings. I used it this year on numerous occasions teamed up with my Abu Atlantic 484’s and in particular, in search of Flounder, Codling and the tougher surf fishing targeting rays from the shore.
Another double-figure ray, casting large baits is no problem for the MAG2 series
Casting is a delight, straight out of the box, and it wasn’t too long before I was “thumping” large sand eel and crab baits out as far as my skills allowed, with no thoughts on over-runs. The brake system is simple to use and with the star drag reasonably tightened, the drag system is extremely powerful. The reel feels smooth and strong, and no problems whatsoever hauling in double-figure Painted Ray through a heavy surf. I am very impressed with this quality reel, but not surprised having used its predecessor for over five years without any cause for concern. With this top drawer beach reel, you definitely will not be disappointed.
